Eravikulam National Parkis located along the western ghats in the Idukki district , Kerala. The park has a area of 97 sq km and is an ideal place for seeing the biodiversity of high elevation shoal-grassland ecosystem. Visitors are boarded on forest departmentís vehicle to go to Rajamalai to see all this as private vehicle are not allowed. Eravikulam National park is about 15 km from Munnar. Park is closed at the time of calving of Nilgiri Tahr usually an early months of the year. The Nilgiri Tahr (Hemitragus hylocrious), the Eravikulam National Park stands out for the stark beauty of its rolling grasslands and shoals.
The Eravikulam National park is home to several rare flora including rare terrestrial and epiphytic orchids and beautiful wild balsams and fauna includes the Nilgiri Tahr, Nilgiri Langoor , Leopard, tiger, Indian bison etc. Rajamalai is a very informative interpretation center where the visitors are taken in forest vehicle and get acquainted with the shoal grassland eco system unique to this region. The sanctuary is divided into three regions like the core area, the buffer area and the tourism area. Visitors are allowed only to the tourism area Rajamalai.
